My Sandbank
POSEYFUSHI
It was the 31st October 1998; a day I will NEVER FORGET!
Very calm seas, and I am going to name my enormous sandbank which is not far from Nakatchafushi Resort in North Malé Atoll, roughly an hour from Malé travelling by Dhoni. I was wearing a brand new national dress for the occasion. I used to buy the material in the UK and Male would make them for me. I must have about 30. Sadly many I now can't get into, just to fat!
The Dhoni couldn't get close to the sandbank, so the boat boys carried me ashore. The three palm tress were waiting to be planted A gang of lads from Nakatchafushi all there to help, headed by Mr Rasheed.the Manager.
There was laughter and song with pictures and gaiety as we all tried to get the trees firmly into position. The trees were to be right in the middle from width to length of the sandbank, this all took some time. You can see from the pictures how we progressed.

Voila! All done. My own private name for her was POSEYFUSHI. At the time I was running Maldive Travel and I would arrange for any very special guests to be taken to Poseyfushi for a romantic private candle light dinner under the stars. They would start the evening with a Maldive lady Cocktail.
Years back barman Tutu on Villingilli devised a cocktail which he called The Maldive Lady. This was in a long glass green in colour with a mixture of alcohol and ice. It tasted delicious. When word got round,Tutu was asked what he had put in it and whether they could have the recipe. "NO make your own" . All the Resorts I sent guests to made their own concoction differently and imaginatively.
Sadly as the years went by, sand travels, my trees and plaque edged closer and closer to the waters and one night after a terrible storm they just slipped away.
Clients on Nakatchafushi would keep me posted how things were doing as you can see in my last picture as to their progress. My sandbank is visible now and then but also on the move. She will always be MY POSEYFUSHI.
